Review of the 2024 Hyundai Creta Facelift and First Drive

Priced between Rs 12 and 22 lakh, the 2024 Hyundai Creta goes up against the likes of the Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor, Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq. Other options for a sedan are the Volkswagen Virtus, Skoda Slavia, Honda City, and Hyundai Verna. In a comparable price range, the mid-spec models of the Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector, and Tata Harrier are also worthy of consideration.

Looks

Hyundai completely redesigned the Creta, giving it a modern and eye-catching appearance. With its bigger grille, bolder lines, and elegant dark chrome finish, the front looks more commanding. A contemporary touch is added by the sequential turn indicators and daytime running lamps.

The top-of-the-line model’s 17-inch alloy wheels have a new design, but the profile still has the distinctive silver trim of the Creta. The once-controversial rear now has a nice design with a big, integrated tail light.

Interior

The area is cleanly divided into two sections by the redesigned dashboard design. The upper portion is completely redesigned to have a more premium appearance, but the below portion stays mostly the same. The dashboard now has an option of off-white, grey, and copper highlights, and it has a smooth, rubber-like touch. The subtle grey-white tone of the upholstery gives it a luxurious vibe.

Thanks to intelligent features like reclining back seats and a centre armrest with cupholders, the interior space is nevertheless pleasant for both front and rear passengers.

Features

Key features like keyless entry, push-button start-stop, an 8-way powered driver’s seat, leatherette upholstery, front-seat ventilation, a wireless charger, a 10.25″ touchscreen, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof are all still present in the Creta’s feature list. The 10.25″ digital driver’s display, 360-degree camera, and dual-zone climate control are new features.

Safety

Hyundai highlights the structural modifications in the body of the Creta by using more sophisticated, high-strength steel. Six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill start assist, vehicle stability control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a tyre pressure monitoring system and rear disc brakes are standard safety equipment on all versions. Level 2 ADAS capabilities, including as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, auto emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert/safe exit warning, and blind spot detection, are also available on top-spec models.

Boot Space

The boot compartment is still modest but large, holding 433 litres of room. More than one big trolley bag is preferred, so many smaller ones. The 60:40 split feature lets you pack more comfortably if you need to.

Engine And Performance

For the Creta, Hyundai offers three different engine options: a 1.5-liter gasoline engine (manually or CVT-only), a 1.5-liter diesel engine (manually or CVT-only) and a brand-new 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine (available only with DCT).

1.5-liter petrol

This engine, which is shared by the Verna, Seltos, and Carens, is renowned for its easy handling, smooth performance, and good fuel economy. Perfect for occasional highway travel combined with city commute. It is suggested to choose the CVT version for a more convenient driving experience. Ideal for a casual driving style; highway overtakes require preparation. 12–14 km/l in the city and 16–18 km/l on the highway are the anticipated fuel economy.

1.5-liter Turbocharged Petrol

For those who are more athletic, this is the best choice. provides immediate response, particularly when driving in Sport mode, making it brisk and pleasurable. Ideal for people who like to drive and need a dynamic performance. With an average of 9–11 km/l in heavy traffic in cities, it is not very fuel-efficient; on highways, it is better, averaging 15–17 km/l.

1.5-liter diesel

Known for being an all-arounder, it offers a harmonious blend of power, smooth performance, and fuel efficiency. It is simple to drive even with the manual version thanks to its light and reliable clutch. It is advised to use the automatic version for a smoother driving experience. Good for highway travel because of its favourable fuel economy, which somewhat makes up for the higher price. 12–14 km/l in the city and 18–20 km/l on the highway are the anticipated fuel economy.

Ride And Handling

The excellent shock absorption of Hyundai’s finely calibrated suspension helps the Creta stay a comfortable car to ride in. Over uneven terrain, the automobile shows very little body movement, even at modest speeds. On nonexistent roads, however, some side-to-side movement might be observed at crawling rates. At speeds above 100 kmph on solid roads, the Creta retains respectable stability and composure on highways.

Because of how responsive and light the steering is, it’s ideal for city driving. It is well-balanced and has sufficient weight for long highway drives. The Creta handles turns with neutrality and predictability, with some anticipated body roll that doesn’t cause anxiety in the driver. In general, the Creta provides a smooth and manageable driving experience on both city and highway routes.

Verdict

The Creta is still a unique family vehicle, providing a well-made, well-equipped package with lots of space and a wide range of options. The Creta is great in many areas, even though it isn’t great in any one, and with the most recent upgrade, the benefits of thinking about it have just gotten stronger—even with the price rise.
